After my husband daring me for months to living up to my nom de plume I finally decided to take the plunge and embrace my inner mermaid even more – with a little help from Chantelle Thackwray and the team at Fringe Vintage Hair Salon in Simons Town.
If you’re looking for an experience rather than a 10 minute trim, I can so recommend this gorgeous spot in the pretty powder blue building alongside The Sweetest Thing bakery on the Main Road. Step through the doorway and you’ve taken a step back into a more glamorous, fun time. Sinatra croons through the speakers, Bogey and Bacall flirt on the TV screens, and Marilyn and Doris Day beam down from frames on the walls. The welcome is warm and you’re listened to attentively and advised wisely by Chantelle before she lays a finger on your head.
I loved the friendly but not overwhelming vibe, Alona’s happy chat during the hair washing and head massaging, the offer of red velvet cupcakes or cinnamon buns with a cup of excelllent coffee, the deliciously scented, as-natural-as-possible product ranges used, and being left alone with a pile of the latest mags to peruse during treatments.
If this sounds like an advertorial, it’s not, I really am gushing this much without any motivation other than sharing a great local find with you!
So – how do I feel about my new green tresses?
Delighted! And Graeme loves them too.
Raph did say he thought I was taking marketing a bit far (trol lol lol) but he also thinks it’s pretty cool.
